NORTH SAN PEDRO
PV BLUE HABITAT RESTORATION(2 credits per hour)
The Palos Verdes blue butterfly, once thought extinct, was rediscovered in San Pedro in 1994 at the Fuel Depot in San Pedro. About 300 acres of habitat will be restored over the next few years as part of the effort to save the butterfly and recreate our native grasslands.
This is your chance to help save an endangered species! Be sure this is on your spring calendar so you can see the butterfly on the wing. Go to 3171 North Gaffey Sreet, 1/2 mile south of intersection of Anaheim and Vermont, near the police pistol range. Bring work gloves. WILMINGTON
KEN MALLOY HARBOR PARK RESTORATION(2 credits per hour)
The third largest park in Los Angeles, Harbor Park shelters a greater diversity of life than can be found any where else in the South Bay. Now you can help to improve the park's many habitats by joining in these monthly work sessions. Your efforts will help lay the ground work for the nature center and education programs that will soon be established here.
Enter the park's parking lot near the corner of Anaheim and Vermont. Meet at the boathouse by the lake. For other information, call Debbie Baker at 722-7777.

SECOND SATURDAY 9 A.M. - NOON.
TORRANCE
MADRONA MARSH RESTORATION(2 credits per hour)
Madrona Marsh is the last remaining vernal marsh (wet in spring, usually dry in fall) in the LA basin. The City of Torrance and the Friends of Madrona Marsh (FOMM) are restoring the marsh and building a nature center. Join the group effort pulling out weeds, trash and old pipe, plant new native vegetation and work as FOMM docents (2 credits/hour). Extra credit activities are available doing research and creating displays.
Go to the Temporary Natural History Center, 3201 Plaza Del Amo, just east of Madrona Avenue, near the Del Amo Mall. Call Shirley Turner at 326-3840 for information.

VARIOUS DAYS AND TIMES
SAN PEDRO
CABRILLO MARINE AQUARIUM (2 credits per hour)
Work with the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium staff on various projects including being docents for weekend tidepool walks, restoring habitat at the salt marsh and creating a native plant garden. Parking is limited. Numbers of volunteers needed vary. Walk leaders must know tide pool animals. Wear comfortable shoes for walking on the rocks. Call Linda Chilton at 548-7546 to register.

MANHATTAN BEACH
BOTANIC GARDEN WORKDAY(2 credits per hour)
The Manhattan Beach Botanic Garden is the only coastal botanic garden in Southern California. It features California native and drought tolerant plants suitable for residential landscapes. You can learn about these important plants and how you can help us conserve water through their use. Volunteers like you are helping to establish these demonstration plantings at Pollywog park. THIRD OR FOURTH SAT 9 A.M. - 1 P.M.
REDONDO BEACH
SHARING NATURE WITH CHILDREN(2 credits per hour)
Work with Palos Verdes/South Bay Audubon Society members to teach children, 6 to 12 years old, about nature. As docents, you will assist with crafts, games, micro-hikes and nature walks (2 credits/hr). Extra credit activities available.
Go to Wilderness Park at Sepulveda Blvd. and Knob Hill, Redondo Beach. You must call Lillian Light at 545-1384 or Bob Carr at 325-4402 to sign up.
