MAPS BIRD BANDING
You can learn about birds first hand, by taking part in the bird banding
project at our San Pedro MAPS station. You will learn
how to identify, measure, band and care for the wild birds that are
being studied as part of this monitoring program. The information gathered
is added to the national MAPS data bank, which will provide biologists with
the information they need to help us protect our native bird populations.

SHARING NATURE WITH CHILDREN
Sharing Nature with Children is our way
of introducing youngsters to the delights of the natural world around
them at Wilderness Park in Redondo Beach.
A few people willing to spend a few hours one
day a month working with high school students and children are wanted
to help with our educational program at Wilderness Park in Redondo Beach.
This monthly program introduces youngsters to a variety of aspects
of the natural world around them in a setting which includes meadow,
woodland, streamside and marsh habitats. Docents help lead the children
in various games, walks and crafts designed to show off the park and the
plants and animals in it.
If you like to work with children, this is an excellent way to
become involved with chapter activities. We want to expand this program
to Torrance, San Pedro and other cities. High school students
and other students who volunteer receive Audubon YES! Award credits.
Join this exciting program by calling Lillian Light at (310) 727-7777.
