Monthly Birdwalks
South Coast Botanic Garden
Dates: First Sunday and Third Wednesday of every month.

Time: 8 a.m.
Place: South Coast Botanic Garden (SCBG), 26300 Crenshaw Blvd., Palos
Verdes Peninsula.
Walks last about 3 hours. There is a charge of $7 ($2.50 for
children 5 to 12 and $5 students and seniors) for those who are not members
of the SCBG Foundation. Ask at the window for membership information.
"Best of the South Bay" Bird Walks with Martin Byhower
Dates: Third weekend (Saturday or Sunday) of every month. Check Martin's website, birdingsocal.com, or contact him at avitropic@sbcglobal.net for site and date schedule and updates.

Time: Most walks meet at 8 a.m.and last 3 hours (plus or minus). Varied habitats, usually easy to moderate. Bring appropriate footwear for wet/muddy areas in season.
Places: Locations alternate, but walks are held approximately every second month at Ken Malloy Harbor Regional Park/Machado Lake (KMHRP) in the communities of Harbor City/Wilmington, Los Angeles CA.
Target Birds (KMHRP): Over 300 species (200 regular). Lake/open water, riparian woodland/willow forest, freshwater marsh, and sage-scrub species, including seasonal migrants and vagrants. Least bittern, tricolored blackbird resident. Other natural history features also observed and discussed.

Directions: See website. For KMHRP walks, meet in the parking area adjacent to the bike path at the southwest corner of the park, between Anaheim Street, and Vermont Ave. Take the Anaheim Street exit off the Harbor (110) Fwy. west to the park entrance, just before Vermont/Gaffey. Turn right into park.

Madrona Marsh
Dates: Second Wednesday of every month.

Place: Madrona Marsh
This is the last vernal marsh in the LA Basin. It is home to a number of rare habitats that attract many
hard-to-find species of plants, birds and other animals. These free walks are held on the 2nd Wednesday of each month, beginning at 8 A.M. from the gate on Plaza del Amo, just west
of Madrona Ave. Call Bob at 326-2473 for other information.
